Semi-Truck Accident On Interstate 55 Seriously Injures Marble Hill Man
David W. Terry
Over the course of my legal career I have handled more cases than I can count involving cars and trucks involved in accidents and crashes. Some of them have resulted in minor injuries while others have been fatal. But no amount of cases can prepare me for a crash that happens on a road that I regularly travel.
Early this morning a 2006 International semi-tractor trailer driven by Christopher Lynwood of Jackson, Tennessee went out of control, crossed the median on Interstate 55 and crashed into the 2003 Buick Century driven by Christopher Randen of Marble Hill. Mr. Hill was seriously injured and taken to a Jefferson County Hospital.
I personally spend a great deal of time in the Marble Hill area with friends and family. I travel up and down Interstate 55 often. When I heard about this accident I envisioned myself and wondered what warning Mr. Hill may have had before the truck crashed into him. Collisions like this happen so quickly and, in particular with a semi-truck, are so violent. I am hopeful that Mr. Hill will make a full recovery.
Far too often truck drivers are not paying enough attention to what they are doing and lose control of their trucks. Sometimes drivers are too tired because they are under great pressure from their corporate owners to deliver their load quickly. Sometimes trucks are not maintained well by the driver or the corporation. And sometimes drivers are so poorly trained that they do not have the skills to quickly react to issues that arise. As of now, we do not yet know the cause of this tragic accident. However, truck companies will quickly have their investigators descending onto the accident scene gathering evidence that is beneficial to them. They will often take advantage of the time immediately after an accident to collect data while the injured person is trying to recover or a family is grieving the death of a loved one.
Those who are injured in crashes with semi-trucks should not delay in contacting an attorney to help them right away. The truck company begins their legal process immediately, so too should the victim.
The Terry Law Firm wishes a full and speedy recovery to Mr. Randen.
